Benchmarking

Benchmarking employment conditions means comparing your company’s employment terms with those of other similar companies in the same industry or market. The goal is to assess how your company’s employment conditions stack up against others and whether adjustments are needed to remain competitive. When benchmarking employment conditions, various components are considered, such as salary, secondary benefits, and pension schemes.

Benchmarking employment conditions is crucial for your company for several reasons:

1. Competitive Advantage
Understanding how your employment conditions compare to others in the same industry helps determine whether changes are needed to stay competitive. This supports attracting and retaining top talent and enhances your reputation as an employer.
2. Employer Attractiveness
An attractive employment package is essential for drawing in and keeping the best candidates. Benchmarking helps assess whether your offering is competitive and whether improvements are needed to appeal to potential employees.
3. Improved Job Satisfaction and Motivation
Fair and appealing employment conditions are key drivers of job satisfaction and motivation. Benchmarking ensures your package is perceived as fair, which can boost employee satisfaction and engagement.
4. Cost Management
Benchmarking also provides guidance on controlling organizational costs by evaluating whether your employment conditions are efficient and sustainable, and whether adjustments are needed to manage expenses.

Benchmarking Across Different Markets
Montae & Partners can benchmark elements of your compensation policy against various markets: for example, the entire Dutch market, a specific sector, or a custom-selected peer group. Montae & Partners offers benchmarking of primary employment conditions (everything that can be directly expressed in monetary terms), secondary benefits, and pensions. We use a combination of sources: our own database, public information, and/or direct outreach to companies to request participation and data contribution.

Pension Benchmarking
In light of the transition to a new pension system (based on the Future of Pensions Act), it is worth noting that Montae & Partners has an extensive database of over 350 pension schemes. This allows your pension scheme to be benchmarked against the general Dutch market (entire database), a specific sector, or a peer group.

The benchmark report also includes detailed insights into how various elements of your pension scheme—such as employee contributions, retirement age, applied franchise, and maximum pensionable salary—compare to those of other companies.
