Disability

Many employers use the Dutch Employee Insurance Agency’s (UWV) voluntary insurance schemes for their expats who do not have an A1/Certificate of Coverage. The voluntary employee insurances for Sickness Benefits (ZW), Unemployment Benefits (WW), and Work and Income (Capacity for Work) Act (WIA) provide employees abroad with entitlement to benefits from the UWV in cases of illness, unemployment, or disability, subject to certain conditions. UWV is not the only party that can insure the risks of illness and disability while working abroad. An alternative option is to take out these coverages with a private insurer.

We conduct market research among international insurers and compare premiums and coverages both among themselves and with the UWV. In many cases, an international insurer offers better coverage at a more favorable premium. We provide advice (for each expat) on the best solution.
